Unit 8

It's hard to believe unit 8 is already here and we are wrapping up this term, it has gone by extremely fast, I guess the statement is true "time flies when you are having fun", this course has been a great learning experience for me.

Out of all of the exercises and practice sessions we have done, there have been some that I have really liked and found beneficial and there have been some that I found useless for me as an individual. I can tell you that I had a very difficult time initially with all of the exercises mainly because I found it difficult to concentrate, however it was certainly a learning process, as with many things in life, the more I practiced the better I got and the more useful I began to find the exercises, not only did I find them useful but they also began to be effective as well, and I was able to start seeing my life in a different light, and I was able to find myself more capable of dealing with stressors and hard times in my life. I really enjoyed the loving-kindness and meditation exercises, I think these were the most beneficial for me because I have spent my whole life wanting to "save the world" and save everybody that is in need, these thoughts can be overwhelming at times because I know as a human this is not possible, however by doing these exercises it gives me a way to organize my thoughts and direct my attention in ways that can be emotionally dealt with.

I have chose to continue to do these exercises because I have found them to be beneficial and I see positive changes taking place in my life, I have a different outlook on life, and I not only see others in a different light but I see myself differently as well, my view of the world is changing and that to me is entirely worth all of this.

Here's to another fabulous week my friends!

  1. Hello Michelle,

I found it difficult as well to concentrate during many of the different practices we attempted. When they dealt with using visualization, I couldn't calm my mind enough to relax because there were too many things floating around through it. I enjoy focusing on my breath because I am able to release all the clutter from my mind and reach a complete calm. I think that if I practice on a daily basis, I will be able to reach a healthy state of mind.

  2. Hi Michelle,

I agree.... the time is flying by. I am so happy to hear all the positive changes you have seen take place by applying the meditation exercises. I think we have gained some great tools in learning how to be more spiritually, physically, and emotionally healthy. Practice is key! I too have a hard time concentrating. I didn't realize how much so until attempting these exercises for class. My mind is so busy! I find that it is hard to focus on one task for long before I am bombarded with more thoughts or disrupting tasks looming before me. Finding that stillness is difficult. Have you had the chance to share what you are learning with friends? I am curious their openness and willingness to learn about tools we have gained in our course.
